Each trait that is passed from one generation to the next has two gene pairs.
Example: The gene pair for a white calf is WW. One white gene from its father and one white gene from its mother. The calf will then pass one of these white genes on to its offspring.
If the calf is roan (RW), it would receive a red gene from one of its parents and a white gene from the other parent. The calf will then pass either a white or a red gene on to its offspring.
